About this Project
After years of trial & error with multi national security contractors, our client was frustrated with the limitations of the technology they’d provided. Despite significant investment, their security patrols were still relying on physical presence & written notes. While we were discussing other complex projects with our client, they expressed frustration with their CCTV system. We suggested they might benefit from the latest IT based systems.
We developed a concept with costs for them to consider.
Some of the challenges they’d asked us to overcome :-
- Limited to 12 traditional cameras due to cost, they needed 50 cameras to cover blind spots
- Provide very low light performance for video & recording
- Clearer high resolution video images capable of genuine digital zooming
- Stabilised images for effective use in very high winds
- Improved all-weather reliability – less moving parts
- Much lower cost & quicker replacement for the inevitable repairs in time
- Longer recording schedules with better search and tracking functions
- Higher quality recording, that didn’t degrade with time
- Control for only approved security operators to access such an advanced security system
- A management system to ensure CCTV use was supervised, overseen & auditable
- Long term secure archive of approved extracts that might be officially required
Our experience with data & IT systems, formed over decades, working within many sectors, including UK defence, Finance, Health, Manufacturing, Retail, Hospitality & Industry, combined with our knowledge & experience of designing, installing & maintaining conventional CCTV systems, we understood the significant benefits of the latest IT based CCTV technology. With our partnership with Milestone Software, the leading experts in CCTV IT software that can control CCTV systems that can span the globe or simply a single location.
We solved our clients challenges by :-
- Building a dedicated campus CCTV IT network, using interbuilding Fibre Optic connections, IP copper cabling within buildings, linked together with secure Cisco IT encrypted switching
- We developed and attached robust N+1 IT server systems running Milestone software, with expandable fast storage drives, for a minimum 30 days of the highest video quality recording
- Installed and connected more that 50 CCTV cameras, Starlight colour capable to 0.005 lux, some 360 PTZ, some 32 x optical zoom, some fixed field wide angle 8 MP, some fast NPR
- Provided CCTV network user accounts for security personnel & supervisors with training
We achieved the design & installation within 5 months, a network of 50 CCTV camera’s, overcoming all of the challenges our client had presented, within a budget less than they’d invested for only 12 traditional cameras. We maintain the same system for our client, and after many years it’s still as reliable and effective.
IT based CCTV systems are here to stay, the core of modern commercial security, where designers & installers need to be competent in both advanced IT networking & tradition CCTV optical technology.
